QB Russell is arrested

Posted by: under Vikings, NFC Updated: July 5, 2010 - 5:40 PM

NFL sources attempted to dismiss a report last week that indicated the Vikings had interest in quarterback and first-round bust JaMarcus Russell.

Well, now the Vikings have yet another reason to not want any part of Russell.

Russell, the first-overall pick in the 2007 draft by Oakland, was arrested Monday for possession of a controlled substance, according to a report in the Mobile (Ala.) Press-Register. The substance was codeine syrup, according to Mobile County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Lori Myles.

Myles told the Press-Register that Russell was arrested at his home Monday afternoon during an undercover investigation. The paper reports Russell was released after making $2,500 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 20.

Russell was released by the Oakland Raiders in May after three seasons.
