Bad news for Southern Miss -- and Favre?

I realize nobody really believes that Brett Favre is going to base his decision on whether he returns to the Vikings on if Southern Miss reaches the college baseball World Series, but the quarterback did tell the Golden Eagles last month that if they made a return trip to Omaha he would be spending another season in Minnesota.

Right now, it looks like there is a good chance at least one of those things won't happen.

Southern Miss opened play in the NCAA tournament Friday with a 10-1 loss to Clemson in Auburn, Ala. If the Golden Eagles lose today against Jacksonville State, their season will be finished. Auburn beat Jacksonville State, 9-7, on Friday.

As you can probably tell it's a slow Saturday and we need something to blog about.

Update: Southern Miss rebounded Saturday to beat Jacksonville State 19-6 and remain alive in the tournament.
