We reported today that the Vikings are giving serious consideration to signing veteren cornerback Lito Sheppard, and ProFootballTalk tweeted that Sheppard is visiting Winter Park today, according to a league source.

The 29-year-old Sheppard is a two-time Pro Bowler who played seven seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and last season with the New York Jets.

The Vikings interest in Sheppard and timing of his visit is intriguing because it comes one day before the first round of the draft. Numerous mock drafts predict the Vikings will take a cornerback with the 30th overall pick. One wonders if that will happen if they sign Sheppard before the draft or will it give the Vikings more incentive to try and trade down into the second round where they likely can still take a corner.

Sheppard would give the Vikings some insurance as Cedric Griffin recovers from a torn ACL. Sheppard also visited the Detroit Lions recently.
