ORLANDO -- Brad Childress has answered so many Brett Favre-related questions this offseason that the Vikings coach didn't have to field a single query about his quarterback for several minutes at the NFC coaches breakfast Wednesday morning at the NFL owners meetings.

When asked for an update on Favre, Childress said: "I don't know if he's out of bed yet or I don't know if he's in Hattiesburg. It's just the same as it has been really. I just don't know. I told these guys before, in this business you have to be able to deal with uncertainty and ambiguity because that's what this is about."

Childress called the Favre situation, "the story that keeps on giving," adding, "it gives you guys something to at least ... when you put your ideas down on your thin pad it makes your one through five list if you're talking to me or you're talking to somebody from the Vikings."

If you haven't been paying attention, the Vikings appear prepared to wait into the summer, and likely training camp again, for Favre to make a decision about his future. The 40-year-old hasn't announced if he will return for a 20th season and I get the impression that the Vikings are confident but not sure of what Favre will do. If Favre decides not to return, all indications are that Tarvaris Jackson would be the starter over Sage Rosenfels. Of course, Jackson at this point is a restricted free agent and has yet to sign his tender. Jackson was the No. 2 QB all last season behind Favre on game day. Childress was asked if Jackson would be in the lead to be the starter if Favre retires, Childress said: "If you took it off of last year, yeah. But we're going to get to the field here before we start next year so we'll just see how those guys have evolved."
