Brett Favre said he didn't hear the MVP chants that broke out in the Metrodome in the fourth quarter Sunday, but he's certainly making a strong case for that honor this season.
Favre played a near-perfect game in a 35-9 blowout of Seattle by completing 22 of 25 passes for 213 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions and a 141.7 passer rating. His 88 completion percentage was a career high and team record.
Here is how Favre ranks in the NFL in various passing statistics:
Passer rating: 112.1 (first)
Completion percentage: 69.7 (second)
Passing yards: 2,482 (11th)
Touchdown passes: 21 (second)
Interceptions: 3 (first)
SI.com's Peter King compared Favre's projected season numbers to the average of his three MVP seasons (1995-97) in his Monday Morning Quarterback piece that can be found right here. It's interesting to see how similar the numbers are. King has Favre No. 2 on his MVP watch list, behind Peyton Manning.
