Mark Craig has covered football and the NFL the past 20 years, including the Browns from 1991-95 and the Vikings and the NFL since 2003. Since 2008, Craig has served as one of the 44 Pro Football Hall of Fame selectors. He can be followed on Twitter at @markcraignfl.
Sidney Rice's career-high 201-yard receiving performance in the Vikings' victory over Detroit on Sunday has earned him NFC offensive player of the week honors.
Rice is the first Vikings wide receiver to win the award since Randy Moss captured it in 2001. It is the fifth time this season a Viking has been recognized as the NFC player of the week. Quarterback Brett Favre has captured the award twice.
Rice caught seven passes as he had the fourth-best receiving yardage day for a regular-season game in franchise history. Sammy White set the record with 210 yards receiving in a 1976 game against Detroit.
Here is the list of the Vikings who have Player of the Week honors this season: Linebacker Chad Greenway vs. Detroit on Sept. 20; kick returner Percy Harvin vs. San Francisco on Sept. 27; Favre vs. Green Bay on Oct. 5; Favre vs. Green Bay on Nov. 1; and Rice.
By the way, despite the fact the Vikings have 10 players leading in Pro Bowl voting at their respective spots in fan voting, Rice isn't even among the top five at this point.
