Griffin's punishment

Vikings cornerback Cedric Griffin does not face a suspension from the NFL for his first drunken driving offense but that doesn't mean the league won't punish him.
In addition to being entered into the NFL's substance abuse program, a first offense for drunken driving is generally a fine of two game checks to a maximum of $50,000. That's if there weren't aggravating circumstances and in Griffin's case there certainly didn't appear to be any.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in an e-mail that the NFL does not announce those fines. Considering the incident involving Griffin happened in late August, it's quite possible punishment already has been handed out.
