HUGE surprise coming here. My all time favorite Vikings-Packers game is...

October 5, 1998 – Vikings 37, Packers 24. Going into this game, the Vikings were 4-0. We knew we had a special talent in Randy Moss. Randall Cunningham seemed rejuvenated after replacing an injured Brad Johnson in week 2. However, let's face it – we had seen this song and dance before, only to have the team fizzle out at the end. The 2-time defending NFC champion Green Bay Packers were also 4-0. They were at home, where they almost never lost. I think most Vikings fans were hopeful, but also waiting for the other shoe to drop. After all, it was right around this point of the season that the team usually began its fade to mediocrity. Almost immediately, you could tell this game was different. This time, the Vikes were the aggressors. And we had "the Freak". I don't know if we've seen anything like it before, or since. I love AD and he's had some awesome games, but there was just something so different about this team. The Vikes looked unstoppable. This game was the catalyst for the rest of the season. They WERE unstoppable. It's just too bad that the NFC championship game and Super Bowl were cancelled that year. Repeat after me - THEY NEVER HAPPENED. (The following clip is all good stuff. Just try not to pay attention to the title. Love that Tony Soprano is narrating. Feel free to fast forward to about 4:00 if you want to skip to the highlights from this game. A word of warning - the Tampa Bay loss "highlights" start at about minute 9.) Deep (Purple) thoughts for the day: Where has Visante Shiancoe been? Brett Favre has always loved throwing to tight ends and Shaincoe really came on last year. As a result, many Vikings rubes selected Shank about 6 rounds too high in local fantasy football drafts this year. You know who you are. If I'm Green Bay, I try to go no huddle and come out throwing right away. I remember a Monday night game a couple years back when New England spread the field and Tom Brady picked the Vikes apart. I'm not saying that Aaron Rodgers is Tom Brady, but he's pretty good. It's a risky strategy with the crowd noise, but if they jump out to a quick lead, it might take the crowd out of the game. Prediction: The Pack comes out no huddle. However, the Vikes defense is better than they were in 2006, and they are ready for it. Rodgers throws a pick-6 on the 1st drive. The D feeds off the energy of the crowd. They harass Rodgers all night. The offense is efficient, and they bust a couple big plays to boot. Vikings win 27-14. Is it Monday yet?
