These are 4 games from the author's memory, which means that any games from the 60's thru early 80's are out (my college years in the 90's are a bit of a haze, but I'm playing some Pink Floyd right now in the hopes of inducing a flashback). I'm going to start with my least favorite memories on Tuesday and Wednesday. Being the eternal source of positivity that I am, I will save the best games for last (Thursday and Friday).

November 11, 2007. Packers 34, Vikings 0.

This was exactly one week after AD dropped 296 on the Chargers. The Packers were having a resurgent year. #4 had the team on a roll going into the game at 7-1. The Vikings were going into the game 3-5. But even with the disparity in records, we had AD so I was thinking (to quote Kevin Garnett) "Anything is possible!!!!". I was actually in the South Beach area of Miami at the time. Being the rube that I am, I actually put off going to the beach and worked at finding a sports bar that carried the game. And maybe it was just me, but a sports bar in South Beach was no easy find. I finally came across an Irish pub that had Sunday Ticket (an Irish pub in South Beach - think about that for a second; let's just say I am relatively certain that the staff was not Irish). Of course, they put the game on the worst TV in the place. With no audio. This would have been OK except the 5 other people in the place could not have cared less what was on. Apparently, there are better things to do in South Beach than watch football. Who knew?

Back to the game. Any Vikings fan who watched knows how humiliating it was. The lack of effort, Dwight Smith yucking it up on the sidelines, Chili looking as overmatched as this guy trying to host a talk show - on HBO (although he might be better at that than he is at broadcasting). The worst loss ever to Green Bay. The only time Green Bay has ever shut the Vikes out (they even scored when Spurgeon Wynn was the QB). All of this was bad enough, but what really made me want to gargle sulfuric acid was AD's knee injury. Since I couldn't hear what was going on, I was just going by what I saw. And it looked BAD. It reminded me of the hit that Daunte took in Carolina. And we all know how that turned out. It was just so typical - the week after AD breaks the record, just when it seemed the sky was the limit, pop goes the ligament. I thought his career might be over. Hey Will Smith, I thought you said Miami was supposed to be fun? South Beach - where hopes and good times go to die! As we all know, the injury looked a lot worse than it was. But that was one of the worst, pain-in-the-pit-of-my-stomach, moments I have had watching sports. I guess it could have been the "Irish" food...

Deep (Purple) thought for the day:

Coach Childress, you could go a long way towards winning people over if you start beating Green Bay (1-5 to this point). I know you said it's just another game. I know that's probably what you have to say and I know Mike McCarthy basically said the same. Just consider that when John Cooper was coach of Ohio State, he used to approach the Michigan game as just another game. Michigan did not hide how seriously they took it. Cooper's record in 13 games vs. Michigan: 2-10-1. I'm just sayin...
