Brett Favre might no longer be a member of the Green Bay Packers, but coach Mike McCarthy knows he isn't going to be able to escape numerous questions about his former quarterback as his team gets ready to face Favre's new team next Monday night at the Metrodome.

"I think it's going to be a lot of fun when the game starts, personally," McCarthy said today in Green Bay. "I think it's going to be a lot of fun because it's going to be a very competitive football game. It was definitely that type of game when he was on this side, so I think it's going to be a lot of fun. Now, outside of the pure football, me personally, answering all the questions and things that I feel that have nothing to do with the game, that's not something I wake up every day and am excited to do. But that's part of the deal, it's part of our business. But I think it's going to be a lot of fun when the ball's kicked off."

Favre's divorce from the Packers in the summer of 2008 has been well documented. He retired in March of that year but later decided he wanted to return. The Packers said, "thanks but no thanks," and Favre set his sights on playing for the Vikings. Green Bay general manager Ted Thompson was never going to trade Favre to Minnesota or release him and let him come to the Vikings, so Favre was dealt to the New York Jets. Favre retired from the Jets after last season, was released in April and then signed with the Vikings after considering his options for an extended period.

Asked if he ever thought he would be facing Favre in a Vikings uniform, McCarthy said: "Well, nothing surprises me in this business, it really doesn't. I've been around it long enough that there's no surprises. I know the last time we talked face-to-face, he had a desire to play in Minnesota, so yeah, I'm not surprised by it."
