Wide receiver Percy Harvin was not on the field as the Vikings began practice inside at Winter Park. Coach Brad Childress said Harvin missed practice because of an illness on Thursday and evidently he has either remained home or at least off the field today.

We should know more about Harvin's status later today when the Vikings issue their injury report and give updates on the status of players for Sunday's game. Obviously, with the flu going around these days, employers are being very cautious about allowing employees to return to work.

Meanwhile, kicker Taylor Mehlhaff was on the field in uniform today. Mehlhaff was cut during training camp and it's unclear if he is being added to the roster. Other than Harvin, every member of the 53-man active roster and the practice squad was present.

That included middle linebacker E.J. Henderson (shoulder) and running back Adrian Peterson (back), who have been slowed in practice this week. Henderson sat out Wednesday and was limited on Thursday; Peterson was limited on both Wednesday and Thursday.

UPDATE: Was just told that Mehlhaff is in for a workout, so there will be no roster move forthcoming. The Vikings got a look at Mehlhaff is training camp but most want to see him kick again. One would have to think it's the strength of his leg on kickoffs that intrigues them because Ryan Longwell remains extremely reliable on field-goal attempts.
