Wide receiver Bobby Wade signed a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs that will pay him more than the minimum for a seven-year veteran, according to his agent Jerome Stanley. That means Wade will earn over $745,000 for this season.

"He expects to play a significant role with the Chiefs," Stanley said in an e-mail. "He and the head coach [Todd Haley] are on the same page as to his ability and expected contributions. He looks forward to being a part of the process of building a winning, Super Bowl level team, like he was in Minnesota where he made significant contributions. He wishes his friends and all former teammates well."

As we mentioned in a Monday blog, Haley is familiar with Wade, having served as the receiver's position coach in 2003 with the Chicago Bears.

Wade led the Vikings in receptions each of the past two seasons but was released last week, shortly after agreeing to have his 2009 salary cut from $3 million to about $1.5 million. The Chiefs are looking for help at receiver after signing and then releasing veterans Amani Toomer and Ashley Lelie before the start of the season.

While it's still unclear exactly what happened with Wade in Minnesota, Stanley's comment that his client is on "the same page" with Haley is interesting.
