Vikings sign wide receiver Lestar Jean

The Vikings have signed wide receiver Lestar Jean, the team announced Tuesday.

Jean spent the first three years of his career with the Houston Texans, who signed him as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2011. He spent the 2011 season on injured reserve then played 27 games for them over the past two seasons.

The 26-year-old has 10 career catches for 186 yards and a touchdown. He had four catches for 35 yards last season. The Texans did not tender him as a restricted free agent after the season.

He suited up against the Vikings in 2012, but did not catch a pass in the Vikings’ 23-6 victory.

Jean, who is listed at 6-foot-3, presumably will compete for a roster spot then potentially snaps behind Cordarrelle Patterson, Greg Jennings, Jarius Wright and Jerome Simpson. The Vikings also have wide receivers Rodney Smith, Adam Thielen and Kamar Jorden on the roster and could add another at some point during next month’s NFL draft, which is considered to have a deep class of wide receivers.
