Former Vikings defensive line coach Karl Dunbar, who was fired afer the 2011 season, has joined the New York Jets as defensive line coach, the Jets announced today.

Dunbar had a five-year playing career as a defensive linemen with the Steelers (1990), Saints (1992-93) and Cardinals (1994-95). Rex Ryan, the current Jets head coach, was Dunbar's position coach with the Cardinals in 1994.

Dunbar's firing was a surprise considering the defensive line was the Vikings' strongest unit in 2011. He was replaced by Brendan Daly, who was Dunbar's assistant in Minnesota before becoming defensive line coach of the Rams the past two seasons.
