Vikings reaching out to Jaguars coach Mel Tucker

The limbo stage continues at Winter Park as the Vikings and head coach Leslie Frazier continue assessing a shake-up to their defensive coaching staff. And according to a report from Jason La Canfora of NFL.com, the Vikings have now moved forward with plans to talk to Jacksonville coach Mel Tucker about possibly becoming their new defensive coordinator.

Tucker is currently the Jaguars' defensive coordinator and took over as the team's interim head coach when Jack Del Rio was fired in late November. The Vikings have plans to meet with Tucker soon. Though La Canfora indicates that Tucker could also have an opportunity to remain the defensive coordinator in Jacksonville. That seems to be the wish of Mike Mularkey, whose currently the offensive coordinator in Atlanta but is interviewing for the Jaguars' head coaching position today.

Tucker is one of four coaches whose name has been floated as a defensive coordinator candidate for the Vikings. Former Tampa Bay head coach Raheem Morris interviewed at Winter Park last Friday. Steve Spagnuolu, the Rams' former head coach, and Mike Singletary, the Vikings' current linebackers coach and special assistant to the head coach, may also be in the mix.

Atfer a 3-13 season, Frazier said he would look seriously at changes to his coaching staff. Fred Pagac remains the team's defensive coordinator until further notice but is almost certain to relinquish that position soon. So far, defensive line coach Karl Dunbar is the only assistant on Frazier's staff whose firing has been confirmed.
