Worst case scenario: Adrian Peterson hurt, Vikings trail

For Vikings fans frustrated with the team's 2-7 start and wondering what else could possibly go wrong this season, they got their answer late in the first quarter this afternoon. That's when star running back Adrian Peterson burst up the middle for a 12-yard run but then had his left ankle rolled up on.

Peterson was in obvious agony, barely able to put weight on the ankle as he was helped to the sideline. He later left the field on the back of a cart and his return is questionable. We'll have more detail on the injiury after the game. But at first glance, Peterson did not look good.

The Vikings looked even worse. After taking an early 7-0 lead on a 12-yard Peterson touchdown run in the first quarter, they now trail Oakland 24-7 at Mall of America Field. The Raiders scored 21 second-quarter points, getting a 10-yard touchdown reception from Chaz Schillens, a 2-yard TD run by Michael Bush and a 1-yard scoring plunge by Carson Palmer.

The Vikings blew a chance to tie the game at 10 with a little less than 5 minutes left before halftime. With Ryan Longwell lined up to try a 49-yard field goal, Chris Kluwe bobbled the snap from Cullen Loeffler and the kick was never attempted. The Raiders quickly capitalized with a 57-yard scoring drive that ended with Bush's run.

Lorenzo Booker then fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Oakland quickly turned that into another score with Palmer's TD coming with only 8 seconds left in the second quarter.
