For the second time in three weeks, right tackle Phil Loadholt has missed a practice because of a family emergency.

"We're waiting to find out a little more about Phil's [emergency]," coach Leslie Frazier said after practice.

Frazier said today's emergency is separate from the situation a couple of weeks ago. Asked if there's any chance Loadholt misses Sunday's season opener, Frazier said, "No, No. He'll be fine. We expect him back [Friday]."

Loadholt was in the locker room during the media access period before practice.

Defensive tackle Letroy Guion also had a family emergency and missed the early portion of today's practice. He resolved the issue in time to join the team portion of practice.

Thursday's practice was the only padded practice of the week for the Vikings.

Other highlights from the post-practice meeting with Frazier:

  • Frazier said QB Donovan McNabb bruised his right wrist in the Dallas preseason game on July 27. McNabb could have played in the final preseason game last Thursday had it been a regular-season game, Frazier said. "It's a bruise," Frazier said. "He's fine." McNabb hasn't missed any practice time because of the injury. As for putting McNabb on the injury report, Frazier said, "It's just precautionary, we have to list him because he did ding it a little bit."
  • Injury report: McNabb, TE Visanthe Shiancoe (hamstring) and CB Chris Cook (hamstring) full participation; CB Asher Allen (toe), Guion (non-injury) limited; Loadholt (non-injury) did not participate.
  • Frazier was asked about Percy Harvin telling reporters earlier in the day that he's lobbying hard to return kickoffs on Sunday. "He's one of the best kickoff returners in the league, if not the best," Frazier said. "But he's also the best slot receiver and one of the top receivers in the National Football League. So you got to wait and (figure out) what's best." Frazier also said, "I want him to return kicks, too, but it's just a matter of weighing what's best for the team."
