The Vikings will workout Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder today in Tallahassee, Fla., according to NFL.com.

The list of Vikings officials in Tallahassee includes Leslie Frazier, offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave and quarterbacks coach Craig Johnson. Vice vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman also was believed to be in attendance.

It was previously reported the Vikings will be in Auburn, Ala., on Wednesday to have a private workout with quarterback Cam Newton. The Vikings also worked out Washington's Jake Locker on March 15. Locker will go through his Pro Day on Wednesday.

None of this comes as a surprise given the Vikings need for a quarterback. The team has the 12th overall pick in next month's draft and Spielman has said the Vikings will get a close look at all of the top available quarterbacks in this draft.

Coach Leslie Frazier mentioned trading up in the first round twice last week at the NFL owners meetings in New Orleans and expressed a desire to get a starting quarterback through the draft.

Vikings officials had dinner with Missouri's Blaine Gabbert in Columbia on March 17 after his Pro Day. Meetings, but not necessarily workouts, also have been arranged for Arkansas' Ryan Mallett and TCU's Andy Dalton.

The Vikings are not believed to have any workout or meeting set up with Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Update: The National Football Post reports the Vikings worked out Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi midway through t his month.
