This comes as no surprise, but Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway signed his franchise tender on Tuesday, according to Vikings.com.

The tender ensures that Greenway will remain with the Vikings for at least the 2011 season. Greenway was set to become a free agent -- likely unrestricted -- when a new collective bargaining agreement gets finalized.

Greenway signed a one-year contract worth the average of the top five salaries at linebacker from last season, which is expected to be around $10 million. The Vikings would like to sign Greenway to a long-term extension once the labor situation is resolved. There are no guarantees that the franchise tag will be part of a new CBA; the NFLPA claims the tags are invalid if the CBA expires Thursday night. Greenway, 28, has led the team in tackles the past three seasons.
