Report: Titans want to talk to Tice

Posted by: under Vikings, Bears, NFC Updated: February 13, 2011 - 11:07 AM

Former Vikings coach Mike Tice got plenty of credit this season for playing a key role in the turnaround of the Chicago Bears offensive line. That success reportedly could pay off for him.

The Chicago Tribune reports that new Tennessee coach Mike Munchak is interested in talking to Tice about becoming the Titans' offensive coordinator. It's unclear whether the Bears will grant Tice permission to interview, according to the Tribune.

The Titans are looking to replace Mike Heimerdinger, who was fired last week.

Tice was an assistant with Jacksonville after being fired as the Vikings coach following the 2005 season, but despite all of his experience he has never served as an offensive coordinator. Getting the chance to work in that role could help Tice land another head coaching job.

Although moving from offensive line coach to coordinator is a promotion, the Bears have the ability to deny Tice permission to talk to the Titans.
