It has been almost a week since Josh McDaniels interviewed to become the Vikings' offensive coordinator.

Since then there hasn't been one word from Winter Park or the McDaniels camp. That silence might be coming to an end.

That's because Pat Shurmur will be named the Browns new coach on Friday, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, opening up the offensive coordinator position in St. Louis.

There was a report earlier this week from the NFL Network that McDaniels could be a candidate with the Rams if Shurmur did leave. It's also believed McDaniels could draw interest from the Atlanta Falcons if their offensive coordinator, Mike Mularkey, departs to take a head coaching job.

St. Louis would be an attractive option for McDaniels -- the former Broncos coach who is considered a very good offensive mind -- because it would give him an opportunity to work with quarterback Sam Bradford.

Once the Shurmur move is made official, the Rams could move quickly to name a new coordinator. Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo could have reservations about McDaniels, however, based on the fact he would be changing the offensive system that Bradford spent this season learning.

It's interesting to note that there was a report last week from Scout.com that the Browns had asked the Vikings for permission to talk to Darrell Bevell, who remains Minnesota's offensive coordinator for the time being as others interview for the job.

Bevell helped to run the Vikings' version of the West Coast offense under former coach Brad Childress and there is a possibility Shurmur could look to add Bevell to his coaching staff because of his familiarity with the system. Shurmur has a background in the West Coast offense and like Bevell went from being a quarterbacks coach to coordinator.

As the Plain Dealer story points out, Shurmur has never worked with Mike Holmgren, who is now the Browns president, but he did learn the system under Andy Reid in Philadelphia. Bevell, of course, is from the same coaching tree, despite the fact he has never worked directly for Reid.
