With Joe Webb expecting to make his first career start on Sunday night in Philadelphia, the rookie quarterback will face the challenge of going against a defense that provides a multitude of looks. Some are designed blitzes, others are designed to look like blitzes but result in players dropping back into coverage. All of them are meant to confuse quarterbacks and considering the Eagles lead the NFL with 23 interceptions it looks as if whatever defensive coordinator Sean McDermott is doing it's working. Among Webb's assignments will be identifying the various looks from the Eagles at the line of scrimmage and making the proper adjustments. Center John Sullivan will provide assistance to Webb but ultimately the inexperienced quarterback is going to have to make some crucial decisions before the ball is ever snapped. Those decisions will help influence what happens once the ball is in Webb's hands. "You've just got to ID them," Webb said when asked about the difficulty of figuring out what the Eagles plan to do. "Try to figure out their different techniques. Their alignment, the way their linebackers align, their slot players align, see who is going to [rush]. The more and more I look at it the more comfortable I get." Webb and Sullivan both spent plenty of time watching film of the Eagles this week. "The way it works the center and the quarterback are working together all the time," Sullivan said. "It's really checks and balances and the final authority is the quarterback. He's looking at the offense. I'm just there to help out with certain things. Maybe if I see a key that they don't see. So it will be no different no matter who is back there. Ultimately, it's the quarterback's call, he trumps what I say and we just try to work together to get the calls right." Webb did not get into specifics but made it clear interim coach Leslie Frazier and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell have tried to help him out with the game plan. "Coach is making it pretty easy and John, he's been doing it for a long time and he knows what's going on," Webb said. But Sullivan said he helps Favre just as much with pre-snap adjustments. "It will be the same amount I try to help out Brett," Sullivan said. "I'm not trying to say this is on [Webb], this is on me. When it comes down to it, though, he has the final say, he's the trump card. If we disagree on a call, we go with what he says. But at the same time we're working together to try to get on the same page with the whole offense functioning the way we need it to and be successful in each and every play."
