The fact that the Vikings game against the New York Giants was postponed until Monday is a headache for both teams, the league and fans. But the Vikings could benefit from the delay.

Quarterback Brett Favre now has an extra 31 hours to prepare to play after being listed as questionable because of a right shoulder sprain. Favre sprained the sternoclavicular joint on the third play against the Bills last Sunday. He did not practice Wednesday or Thursday and did limited throwing in practice Friday.

Favre has started 297 consecutive regular-season games. The coaching staff and medical staff had planned to watch Favre workout before the game Sunday morning before deciding whether his streak will continue.

Favre now has an extra day to get his shoulder prepared to play. Will 31 hours make a significant difference in how his shoulder responds? Maybe not, but it gives him a chance to get more treatment and rest.
