Quarterback Brett Favre and wide receiver Percy Harvin were among six Vikings who did not take part in Wednesday's practice as the team began preparations for Sunday's game against the New York Giants at Mall of America Field.

Coach Leslie Frazier is hoping Favre can test his sprained right shoulder on Thursday but had said Favre would sit out the Wednesday session. Harvin, meanwhile, is continuing to deal with a migraine headache that caused him to miss last weekend's game against Buffalo.

Also missing the practice were cornerback Chris Cook (knees); defensive end Ray Edwards (sprained right ankle); safety Tyrell Johnson (knee); and quarterback Joe Webb (hamstring).

Running back Toby Gerhart (hamstring) and Pro Bowl left guard Steve Hutchinson (broken right thumb) were limited in practice, as were running back Adrian Peterson (ankle) and wide receiver Sidney Rice (hip). Hutchinson did not play last Sunday against Buffalo, marking the first time he has missed a game since the 2002 season.

Wide receivers Bernard Berrian (groin) and Greg Lewis (concussion) and safety Jamarca Sanford (hamstring) were listed on the injury report but did not miss any practice time. Lewis and Sanford did not play last Sunday.

For the Giants, offensive tackle Shawn Andrews (back) and running back Ahmad Bradshaw (wrist) did not take part.

Limited for the Giants were cornerback Will Blackmon (chest); safety Brian Jackson (hand); wide receivers Hakeem Nicks (lower leg) and Steve Smith (pectoral); center Shaun O'Hara (foot); and defensive end Osi Umenyiora (knee).
