Peterson not practicing

Running back Adrian Peterson's sprained right ankle kept him off the field for Wednesday's practice.

That comes as no surprise given that Peterson suffered the injury in the second quarter of Sunday's victory at Washington and did not return. Peterson wasn't even on the field watching practice during the first portion that is open to the media on Wednesday because he likely was receiving treatment.

"It’ll probably be day-to-day, maybe going all the way up until Sunday as to whether or not he’s going to be playing or not," coach Leslie Frazier said of Peterson's status before practice. "We’ve all got our fingers crossed. We’ll see what he’s able to do today. May or may not be on the practice field -- we’ll see. But we are hoping that he’ll make it to Sunday."

Also sitting out Wednesday were quarterback Brett Favre; wide receivers Percy Harvin and Greg Lewis; safeties Jamarca Sanford and Eric Frampton; left guard Steve Hutchinson; and defensive end Ray Edwards.

Hutchinson suffered a fractured right thumb on Sunday and Edwards sprained his ankle. Hutchinson said Wednesday that he is planning to play Sunday with a cast on his hand this  weekend against the Bills. It's not certain if Edwards will be able to go versus Buffalo.

Favre has been rested during many Wednesday practices since suffering a stress fracture in his left ankle and another fracture in his left heel on Oct. 24 against the Packers at Lambeau Field. Frampton and Sanford have been battling hamstring injuries that kept them out Sunday.

The mystery today is what's going on with Harvin. He was in the locker room before practice and looked ready to go so his absence was surprising. The Vikings will issue an injury report after practice later this afternoon.
