Nose tackle Pat Williams is considered one of the Vikings' locker room leaders but that doesn't mean the 14-year veteran always feels he's getting through to his younger teammates.
"These young cats, they are a whole different breed," Pat Williams said Monday during an appearance on Sirius NFL Radio. "If you [are] around these young guys they are bringing inside the NFL these days, they are a whole different breed and I don't undersetand it. I try to talk to them and stuff and they just don't get it.
"Like me, I played with a lot of great players, Hall of Famers and everything. But I'd sit there and listen to the guys. I try to talk to them but they just be saying 'yeah,' but they don't get it. I just don't understand. I just do [what I have to do] because I've got pride. I can't just go home knowing nobody just whupped my [butt] on the field."
Williams said he has talked to the younger players about the changes that will be made if a new coach is brought in and Leslie Frazier isn't retained.
"That's what I'm trying to explain to the guys, like the young guys, I said, 'I've been through it before and trust me you do not want to go through it,'" Williams said. "It's best to keep playing good for Coach Frazier and hopefully he gets the head coach job because you get a new coach and he's coming in and changing everything."
Willliams applauds the approach Frazier has taken since being named the interim coach a week ago Monday.
"I basically like what Coach Frazier told the team," he said. "He said, 'You're all in or you ain't in. So if you aren't all in come talk to me.' That's what Coach Frazier told everybody. 'You either be all in or if you've got a problem with it just come talk to me and we'll deal with it.'"
