Eric Bieniemy will have a busier than usual weekend.

The Vikings running backs coach will interview for the Colorado head coaching job on Saturday in the Washington, D.C., area, according to people with knowledge of the situation. The Vikings will play the Redskins on Sunday at FedEx Field in Landover, Md.

Bieniemy played at Colorado from 1987 to 1990, establishing himself as the school's all-time leader in rushing yards, all-purpose yards, touchdowns and scoring. He won a national title with the Buffaloes in 1990.

He then spent nine seasons in the NFL (1991-99) before entering the coaching ranks. Bieniemy was an assistant at Colorado in 2001 and 2002 before spending three seasons at UCLA. He joined the Vikings in 2006 after Brad Childress was named coach and was promoted to an assistant head coach position this past offseason after Southern Cal tried to hire him as its offensive coordinator.

Childress' dismissal this week as the Vikings coach has created uncertainty for the entire coaching staff. It's uncertain how serious Colorado is about hiring Bieniemy to replace Dan Hawkins. Hawkins was fired this month. The Denver Post is reporting that school officials also plan to talk to Redskins tight ends coach Jon Embree, who also played at Colorado.
