Pass rush remains under microscope

We're back at Winter Park after returning from Boston where the Vikings lost to the New England Patriots 28-18 on Sunday.

Coach Brad Childress will hold his day-after press conference at 12:30 p.m. central with locker room media access a little later.

On the injury front, hopefully Childress will provide an update on Brett Favre's status after he took a nasty shot that opened a gash on his chin, requiring eight stitches. Also, Percy Harvin said he expected to have his left ankle examined by the team's medical staff today after injuring it on the second possession. Harvin returned but he was in a lot of pain in the locker room after the game.

We'll also see if Childress has any reaction to Randy Moss postgame press conference in which he criticized Childress for not kicking a field goal at the end of the first half and also said he was disappointed in his coaches and teammates for not taking his input on the Patriots schemes and tendencies to heart last week.

We mentioned this briefly in our story on the defensive problems in the second half, but the Vikings did not collect a sack again Sunday, pushing their streak without a sack to three games. The defense did not record a sack in back-to-back games for the first time since 1991 last week against Green Bay. We're trying to find out how long it's been since they've been shutout three games in a row.

The Vikings led the league in sacks last season with 48. They are tied for last this season with only six in seven games. They were credited with only three hits on Tom Brady on Sunday.

"I could sit here and talk Xs and Os and try and explain it away," said defensive end Jared Allen, who has only one sack. "But bottom line is we’re there. Every game we got four, five, six pressures. We’ve got quarterbacks moving. We’re just not getting them on the ground. There’s a lot more to football than just rushing the passer. But there comes a point where we’ve got to figure something out. We know teams are going to do certain things against but we’ve had opportunities. We’ve had our opportunities the last couple of weeks, we have opportunities every game."
