Favre listed as questionable

Quarterback Brett Favre is listed as questionable on the Vikings' injury report for Sunday's game against Dallas.

Coach Brad Childress reiterated that a determination on Favre playing will be a game-time decision, although Favre told ESPN later in the day that he expects to start.

Favre has been bothered by tendinitis in his throwing elbow in recent weeks and it clearly impacted him in the Vikings' loss to the Jets on Monday night. Favre has started an NFL record 289 consecutive games. (Questionable means that in Childress' mind there is a 50 percent chance Favre will play.)

"It will be right up to then," Childress said of it being a game-time decision. "You never know coming back, [he] took a few more turns today. I can't look into a crystal ball and see how he wakes up tomorrow. He could wake up with the gout tomorrow morning."

Childress said Favre looked "OK," in Friday's practice. He did not practice on Wednesday and was limited on Thursday. The Vikings practiced for about an hour Friday, wrapping up a week of relatively short practices after the team played Monday night against the New York Jets.

Center John Sullivan (calf) was able to do limited work in Thursday and Friday's practices but is listed as questionable and is not expected to play for  second consecutive game. It also appears to be a long shot that cornerback Chris Cook (knee) will be able to play. He is listed as questionable, too.

Rookie offensive lineman Chris DeGeare (knee) did not practice this week and has been declared out. Listed as probable are safety Jamarca Sanford (back); defensive end Brian Robison (ankle); tight end Visanthe Shiancoe (hamstring); and safety Madieu Williams (shoulder).

As for Sidney Rice, Childress said he doesn't expect the wide receiver to be doing any running for a couple of weeks. "He's doing all the rehab now with weight-bearing stuff in the training room," Childress said. "It includes running in the water."

Rice had his jersey on Friday and caught some passes off to the side during the portion of practice the media is allowed to watch. Childress predicted a mid-season return for Rice but then added, "give or take a couple of weeks." Rice is eligible to come off the physically unable to perform list on Tuesday but it's very unlikely that will happen.

He expects to find out in "the next week or so" when he can begin doing more activities. Rice said he went out with one of the Vikings equipment guys on Thursday and caught some passes. "It feels good, it's always good to be out there on the field and be around the football atmosphere," he said.

Childress said wide receiver Randy Moss has progressed in his knowledge of the offense after having only three days of practice before the Vikings played the Jets. "We're not as much think, think, think, think," Childress said. "There is some thinking and those around him help him when he is thinking. It was a whirlwind last week. It was hard to get up to speed and get the plays that he was comfortable with but he'll do more this week and he'll do more and more as we go."

Childress said Moss is much more comfortable with the Vikings' 2-minute offense as well.

Etc.

  • Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant (ribs, ankle) did not practice at all this week but is listed as questionable. Every other player on the Cowboys injury report is listed as probable.
