Jets coach Rex Ryan is as colorful a coach as there is in the NFL and he began his conference call with Twin Cities reporters Thursday morning with a deadpan routine of his idea to avoid facing Randy Moss on Monday night.

Ryan said initially he was stunned by the Moss trade but then he hatched his idea.

"The more I think about it, this is what I think needs to happen," Ryan said. "I'm going to give Brad [Childress] a call and give him my idea. This is the deal. The way the NFL is with player safety and all that kind of stuff. Let's face it: He missed his bye week. I think he needs to sit out this week. A lot of has changed since he's been in Minnesota. It's been several years now. He needs to find out where the surroundings are, all that kind of stuff, house hunting. All that stuff needs to be done this week."

On Wednesday, Ryan told reporters he would have trouble sleeping this week after finding out about the trade.

"I felt much better when I came up with this deal here," he said. "I'm just telling you guys. This has nothing to do with me. It has nothing to do with the Jets. Absolutely nothing. It's all about what's good for Randy." Turning serious at that point, Ryan he heaped a ton of praise on the Vikings offense and the addition of Moss. The Jets faced Moss in Week 2 when they defeated the New England Patriots 28-14. "He's a tremendous player," Ryan said. "This guy when he's covered he's open. That's an issue for anybody that's up against him. He's got the great speed. In my opinion, the best vertical receiver in the game or right there with them. It's just a huge weapon. "When you combine Randy Moss with what they already have, with [Bernard] Berrian, Percy Harvin, and wait until that other kid gets back, [Sidney] Rice gets back. That's going to be sick. And oh by the way, you have Adrian Peterson back there at running back." Ryan said he believes Peterson is the best running back in the league. "He is ridiculous," he said. "He's the best back in football in my opinion. He's big, fast, physical, great vision and balance and all that kind of stuff. I don't know what more you can say about him. It's ugly. The kid is a hell of a back. We've got to put some Riddells on him and hopefully we can knock him around and don't let him get started because he is a monster."
