File this under stunning news. FOXsports.com's Jay Glazer is reporting that the Vikings are close to finalizing a trade that would bring wide receiver Randy Moss back to Minnesota.

Glazer said the Vikings and Patriots are engaged in "serious trade talks" but the deal hinges on the Vikings working out a contract with Moss first. Here is Glazer's story.

This obviously would be a seismic development because of Moss' history with the Vikings. He was the team's first-round draft pick in 1998 and quickly became one of the league's most explosive and productive receivers.

From 1998-2004, Moss caught 574 passes for 9,142 yards and 90 touchdowns. All of those numbers rank second in team history. Moss had six consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season and also averaged 15.9 yards per catch in a Vikings uniform.

The Vikings traded Moss to Oakland after the 2004 season for the Raiders seventh overall pick in the draft and linebacker Napoleon Harris and a seventh-round pick.

Besides the obvious buzz that his arrival would create, Moss could certainly help the Vikings passing game, which has struggled in the absence of Pro Bowler Sidney Rice, who had hip surgery in training camp. Moss has nine catches for 139 yards and three touchdowns this season and he remains at age 33 one of the most feared vertical threats in the league.

Moss has expressed his unhappiness with his contract situation in New England in recent weeks and he did not catch a pass in Monday's victory against Miami. Moss' contract expires after this season and he had hoped to get an extension in place during the season.

ProFootballTalk reported that Moss wants a deal with will pay him $9 million or more per year.
