And here I thought the most excitement regarding T.J. Houshmandzadeh and the Vikings came more than a year ago when Chip followed a limo carrying Houshmandzadeh on Hwy. 394 into downtown Minneapolis in order to figure out what was going on with the then free agent wide receiver.

Well, it appears Houshmandzadeh mania is once again picking up steam in these parts. A report on Saturday afternoon from a Milwaukee television station helped spark the latest excitement when it reported that Houshmandzadeh had signed with the Vikings after the team released Javon Walker.

Houshmandzadeh was released by the Seahawks today after they were unable to work a trade for a veteran who is guaranteed more than $7 million this year. So what's going on with Houshmandzadeh? Here's what we know.

NFL sources told us Friday evening that the Vikings were not interested in Houshmandzadeh, but obviously at the time that was in a trade. The issue is that there are strong indications Houshmandzadeh is very interested in playing for the Vikings and with Brett Favre as his quarterback.

The fact the Vikings only have four wide receivers on their roster at the moment makes it seem likely they will add a player before Thursday night's regular-season opener in New Orleans. Will that be Houshmandzadeh? That's tough to say.

Even if Houshmandzadeh wants to play for the Vikings, his reps aren't going to sign a deal tonight. Agent Kennard McGuire and Houshmandzadeh are going to listen to offers from interested teams and then make a decision based on a variety of factors. It wouldn't be surprising to see something get done on Sunday.

It remains to be seen if the Vikings will be one of the teams that enters the bidding process. And that's what I know at the moment. Now, it's back to looking at the list of cornerbacks who were released.
