We'll have a running blog as we hear about players being released. Cuts must be made by 5 p.m. today. The issue here is that players are called in and told so this takes a while to play out. The Vikings need to cut 20 players today to get down to 53. Here we go ...

11:57 a.m. The Vikings have waived cornerback DeAndre Wright. Comment: No surprise here.

12:56 p.m. The Vikings have released tight end Garrett Mills. Comment: Good hands and excellent route runner but had injury issues. Sounds like Brett Favre reallly liked Mills' abilities.

1:01 p.m. Vikings have waived fullback Ryan D'Imperio. Comment: Linebacker turned fullback is a prime candidate for the practice squad after being a seventh-round pick last April.

1:15 p.m. Just heard the Vikings are planning to keep four tight ends. That list would include Visanthe Shiancoe, Jim Kleinsasser, Jeff Dugan and rookie Mickey Shuler.

1:17 p.m. The Vikings have waived cornerback Marcus Sherels. Comment: The former Gopher is likely to end up on the practice squad. As of now, the Vikings have three healthy corners.

1:22 p.m.: The Vikings have waived defensive tackle Tremaine Johnson. Comment: Expected to land on the Vikings practice squad if he gets through waivers.

1:53 p.m. The Vikings have waived offensive lineman Thomas Austin. Comment: One of several linemen who was in camp could be practice squad candidate.

2:02 p.m. Have confirmation that the Vikings have waived running back Ian Johnson. Comment: Caught up in a number's game behind Adrian Peterson, Albert Young and Toby Gerhart. Johnson spent last season on the practice squad.

2:11 p.m. Vikings have waived offensive tackle Chris Clark. Comment: Clark's struggles in the first two preseason games pretty much sealed fate.

2:50 p.m. The Vikings are in need of depth at cornerback but it won't come via a trade with Denver for Alphonso Smith. The Broncos traded Smith to Detroit.

2:52 p.m. The Vikings waived wide receiver Freddie Brown. Comment: If he clears waivers, he will be signed to the Vikings practice squad.

2:56 p.m. The Vikings have waived wide receiver Logan Payne and defensive end Mike Montgomery. Comment: Payne impressed early in training camp but battled a rib injury and missed the last preseason game. Payne has practice squad eligibility left and could rejoin the Vikings on that unit if he doesn't go elsewhere. Montgomery, a former Green Bay Packer, was a third-team defensive end throughout camp.

2:59 p.m. The Vikings have waived left guard Adrian Battles. Comment: Former Minnesota State standout could get consideration for the practice squad.

3:12 p.m. The Vikings have placed kickoff specialist Rhys Lloyd on waivers. Comment: The team has expressed interest in bringing Lloyd back but he could be claimed. The Panthers and Giants are believed to be interested in him. Lloyd's $200,000 signing bonus with the Vikings was guaranteed. Ryan Longwell is expected to handle kickoffs and field goals on Thursday night.

3:45 p.m. Wide receiver Javon Walker has been informed he will be released. Comment: This one comes as a surprise given that this means the Vikings likely will be carrying four wide receivers by the end of the day. It would seem there is a plan at work here but not sure what it is.

4:05 p.m. Drew Radovich, who was the second-team left tackle, has been waived. Comment: This was Radovich's third stint with the Vikings. We are now at 15 cuts for the day, meaning there are five we still don't know about.

4:31 p.m. An NFL source said contrary to reports elsewhere nothing has happened between the Vikings and wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Houshmandzadeh's reps are likely to talk to a few teams before any decisions are made. Houshmandzadeh, let go by Seattle today, is an unrestricted free agent.
