The preseason is officially over and the Vikings ended it Thursday with a 31-24 victory against the Denver Broncos.

Judd wrote about the quarterback situation in his game story and previous blog. That's sure to get a reaction from Vikings fans who didn't hide their displeasure with Tarvaris Jackson's play.

Here are some other notes and quotes from the postgame locker room:

  • Kickoff specialist Rhys Lloyd had a better showing as he competes for a roster spot. Lloyd put five of his six kickoffs in the end zone and had two touchbacks. He was 0-for-9 on touchbacks the first three preseason games. "I made a point not to try and kill everything I hit and just hit my best ball," Lloyd said. "Nice, smooth tempo and the result was exactly what I wanted."
  • Linebacker Erin Henderson celebrated his 35-yard fumble return for a touchdown by throwing the ball into the stands. "That's been a long-time dream of mine to throw the ball into the stands like that," he said. "I found after that it's illegal and I'm probably going to get fined. I hope they don't tax me too bad. Keep in mind I'm an undrafted free agent. I don't really have that much money. I'm not on Jared Allen's paycheck. I think they should start fining by salary." All joking aside, Henderson had a huge game with nine tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss, one quarterback hurry and two fumble recoveries. Henderson said he a couple of shoulder stingers late in the game but nothing serious.
  • Lito Sheppard admitted he hasn't made many plays in preseason games, but the veteran corner said he expects to start the season opener. "I don't see why not," he said. Brad Childress said the team hasn't decided who will start at right cornerback against the Saints. The Vikings likely will have only three healthy corners -- Sheppard, Asher Allen and Antoine Winfield -- when they trim their roster to 53 players on Saturday. They almost certainly will look to add another corner when teams release players. "It's a fluid situation," Childress said. "[Vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman] and I will be sitting and looking at who is out there, that type of thing. But you always have to be looking at places where you are short bodies.
  • Wide receiver Javon Walker caught his second touchdown pass in as many games. Walker hopes he showed enough to stick on the roster. "It's up to them," he said. "I know what I can do, I know what I can bring to the table and obviously it wasn't a long tender here, it was only just a couple of practices. Knowing my ability I'll only get better and I'll only get stronger. But the few days that I've been here, I just hope I did enough to where I show them through the course of a season I get better and I get stronger."
  • With rookie Toby Gerhart resting a knee injury, Albert Young got all the carries in the first half. He rushed for 42 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries. "It was good to be able to get that many reps so you can get your wind and make sure you can gauge where your conditioning is at," Young said. "I feel like I'm good."
  • Tyrell Johnson and Jamarca Sanford competed throughout camp for the starting job at safety. Johnson started Thursday and returned an interception 41 yards. He also collected six tackles, a tackle for loss and a pass breakup. Sanford didn't play after suffering an undisclosed injury this week, but Johnson wondered whether the fact that he played means the competition is over. "Typically, the [backups] usually play in the fourth game and the starters usually sit out," Johnson said. "I don't know. I can only control what I can control and handle my job."
