Bridgewater inactive for Vikings in NFC Championship Game

As the Vikings try to advance to Super Bowl LII with a win in the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Teddy Bridgewater will again not be in uniform.

Bridgewater is inactive for the second consecutive game, sitting out the game as the Vikings go with Sam Bradford to back up Case Keenum. Bradford, whom the Vikings acquired from Philadelphia last September, completed 24 of his 41 passes for 224 yards, a touchdown and an interception, while fumbling four times and losing two of them, in the Vikings’ 21-10 loss to the Eagles last October.

The Vikings again, though, made a decision that suggests they’re more comfortable with Bradford than Bridgewater, should Keenum get injured or become ineffective with their season on the line. That’s not necessarily an indication Bridgewater’s days in Minnesota are numbered, especially when Bradford is also about to become a free agent and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur is set to become the New York Giants’ next head coach. But the team’s confidence in Bridgewater is certainly an open question going forward.

Adam Thielen is active for the game, but as Thielen deals with low back issues, the Vikings have rookie Stacey Coley on their active roster for just the fifth time this season.

Here is the Vikings’ full list of inactives for the NFC Championship Game:

QB Teddy Bridgewater

QB Kyle Sloter

DT Shamar Stephen

RB Mack Brown

G Danny Isidora

RB Mack Brown

DE Tashawn Bower

C Cornelius Edison

Sources: Thielen will play despite back, Bridgewater expected inactive

Adam Thielen was limited throughout the week due to a lower back injury suffered against the Saints. He played 77 of 81 snaps in that game, and he’s expected to try to play through the injury again during Sunday’s NFC title game, according to a source.

The pain Thielen is dealing with, from fractures in his back suffered from a hit by Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore, according to NFL Media, is not insignificant. His movement was limited early in the week, unable to practice on Wednesday. Thielen was still limited in practices Thursday and Friday before being listed as questionable to play.

“Questionable” is how head coach Mike Zimmer described Thielen’s practices.

The Vikings’ quarterback pecking order is also expected to remain the same, another source told the Star Tribune, with Sam Bradford as the backup and Teddy Bridgewater inactive for a second consecutive playoff game. The Vikings have never had three quarterbacks active for a game under head coach Mike Zimmer.

It’s not yet clear if safety Andrew Sendejo (concussion) or cornerback Mackensie Alexander (rib/illness) will play after being listed questionable. However, Sendejo went through a full practice on Friday, meaning he could be medically cleared before kickoff.
