The 40-year-old, who underwent surgery in the offseason, said his arm bothered him all last year, when he was with the New York Jets.
Brett Favre probably didn't need to volunteer the information considering he had just thrown for 392 yards in the Vikings' 36-10 victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday. But for anyone curious, the quarterback's arm is feeling great these days.
Of course, Favre admits he can't say the same about his legs, back, hips, knees, ankles and other assorted body parts -- but the 40-year-old isn't about to let that slow him down. Not with the Vikings sitting at 10-1 after Favre tied former Viking Jim Marshall's NFL record for most consecutive games played at 282.
Favre is poised to break the ironman mark next Sunday at Arizona and, after having a partially torn biceps bother him for much of last season with the Jets, he's enjoying being healthy this time around.
"I would love to sit here and tell you that I probably should be icing it and things like that after games," Favre said. "I probably shouldn't have thrown four days after I had surgery [in May], which was a mistake because it set me back a little bit. But I have been pretty fortunate. Last year I was not very fortunate. It bothered me the whole season. I actually did a little stretching before the game. I do that every once in a blue moon. It's been probably three weeks since I have done it."
Favre completed five or more passes to five different receivers, the first time that has been done in a single game in Vikings history and also the first time he has done it in his 19-plus seasons.
As for Marshall's record, Favre discussed that with the former Vikings defensive end earlier this season.
"Of course, we traded blows back and forth, saying, 'What you did was truly amazing,'" Favre said. "He said, 'No, playing quarterback has got to be tougher.' As most things are, it's a matter of opinion. I do know this, to be mentioned and to be up there with him is pretty impressive. It's hard to do.
"I think his position is harder because you are hit every time. There are some times where I can hand off and watch. The game, I don't want to say it was tougher then ... the way it was looked at, the way things were treated was a lot different. So I tip my hat to him and what he was able to do."
