NFL Films goes all-day with A.D.

Today marks the release of "All Day with Adrian Peterson," a highly stylized look at many aspects of Peterson's career.

Last update: October 13, 2009 - 4:57 AM

Adrian Peterson broke the NFL single-game rushing record as a rookie, led the league in rushing in his second season and has garnered comparisons to the all-time greats this year. As such, it's hard to believe there is much about the Vikings RB that most people don't know. ¶ Then again, most entities don't have the same depth of access or resources as NFL Films and Warner Home Video. Today marks the release of "All Day with Adrian Peterson," a highly stylized look at many aspects of Peterson's career. Peterson will be signing copies at the Mall of America Best Buy Rotunda from 6-8 tonight as part of the DVD's official release. ¶ While some of the material covered in the DVD will be plenty familiar to Vikings fans -- there are in-depth looks at his 296-yard game against the Chargers and other memorable early-career moments -- there is also plenty to satisfy even those who have followed Peterson's career closely. ¶ Among the behind-the-scenes highlights, based on the viewing of an advance copy:

• Footage of Peterson's roots in Texas. There's off-field stuff, with him talking about baling hay as his first job, and also old footage of him playing youth football, both offense and defense.

"Good days, man," Peterson said in an interview last week. "It was fun being able to hit someone else instead of being hit all the time." He added that his days in Texas might have contributed to his ability to elude tacklers because he used to have to run away from wild hogs. For real? "Yeah, for real. Don't run in a straight line, or they're going to catch you."

• Behind-the-scenes footage from draft day in 2007. Peterson says on the DVD that he thought he was going to play for the Browns. "If I had to put money on it," he said, "I'd say maybe Cleveland." Think about that, Vikings fans.

• Plenty of footage from Vikings camps and practices, with an emphasis on his relationship with Vikings running backs coach Eric Bieniemy. The two are shown doing a little verbal sparring over a missed assignment in a practice.

As of Friday, Peterson hadn't seen the finished product. And, of course, there are plenty of chapters still unwritten in his life and career.

"I didn't know they were going to go that deep, but what you see is what you get," Peterson said. "It was an honor. I'm just in my third year, and they're already doing a documentary. It's a blessing, and I'm just enjoying it."
