Fantasy football advice from Chris Carr and Michael Rand that falls somewhere between fantasy and reality.
Chris Carr: Since neither of us has slept since last Thursday night, maybe we should just bag the fantasy football column this week. We're in no shape to be analyzing anything non-Minnesota-related at this point. Wait, have they even been playing sports outside of Minnesota? Haven't noticed. So should we just tell people to start Peyton Manning, Adrian Peterson and Reggie Wayne and be done with it? These past six days have killed my fantasy football buzz. Suddenly I know more about Delmon Young's bat speed and the right side of the Badgers offensive line and Brett Favre's completion percentage on passes between 11 and 20 yards than I do about anything fantasy-related. I couldn't tell you if Rashard Mendenhall is the next Franco Harris or the next Ciatrick Fason.
Michael Rand: Nonsense! There's always time for fantasy football. Did you know: Joe Flacco is a top-five fantasy quarterback. Believe it! Did you know that having LaDainian Tomlinson is only slightly more useful than having retired Viking Rick Fenney on your roster? Did you know that starting two running backs from the same team -- Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams -- wouldn't be a terrible idea? Things might be crazy around here, but they are just as crazy in fantasyland. The readers need us. Whaddya got?
Chris Carr: What do I know? I know about Knowshon. I'm excited about Moreno, Denver's rookie back. I expect him to pull a Mendenhall with Correll Buckhalter injured and get you a TD or two against New England. I know Braylon Edwards is a knucklehead (does he think he's a Raider?), but that trade sure makes the Jets offense a lot more appealing. I know Aaron Rodgers is better than that. I know the Cowboys are no friends of fantasy lately and that we should keep all of them on the bench until things get straightened out in Big D. And I know that Donovan McNabb is going to tear it up in his return this week, so get him back in your lineups. At least I think I know all those things. Spending most of your week depressurized in the deafening Metrodome will do funny things to your brain.
Michael Rand: You know Aaron Rodgers is better than what? A scared-pantsless QB who has no feel for the pass rush? Maybe. But that offensive line will do funny things to a man. You should also know that if your defense has a bye week, the next best option might be "whoever is playing the Rams." Yeah, this week it's the Vikings, who are probably owned in most leagues. But we pulled the trick last week with the 49ers (three D/ST touchdowns!) and we'll be going back to that well again this season. (Note: Substitute the Browns, who are at Buffalo this week, for equally fun results!). I suggest you do the same, if you know what's good for you.
