The Wildcat

For the first time since training camp opened, the Vikings spent time working on their version of the Wildcat offense. In what basically served as an installation period and featured no defenders, Percy Harvin and Chester Taylor both took snaps from center. Quarterback Sage Rosenfels split out wide. The Vikings worked on the Wildcat in minicamp as well. The team is not trying to be secretive about its intention to use it. In fact, the drill Wednesday was run while television cameras were still allowed to film the action.

The Rice spot

The Vikings also worked on the two-minute drill for the first time in camp, and the first-team offense finished with a bang. On the final play, Rosenfels lofted a pass high into the end zone and Sidney Rice leaped to grab it in traffic.

Man in the middle

Linebacker E.J. Henderson made the defensive play of the day when he jumped in front of tight end Visanthe Shiancoe to intercept Rosenfels' short pass over the middle in the afternoon practice.

Nice catch, Coach

Coach Brad Childress got into the action during the afternoon practice. John David Booty's pass was batted backward at the line of scrimmage and headed in Childress' direction. He made the catch and acted as if he were going to return it downfield as a few of his players cheered on.

SIGNAL CALLING

Tarvaris Jackson was eased into the action after returning from his knee injury. He seemed to move well and had plenty of zip on the ball. Rosenfels showed good command in running the two-minute drill.

INJURY REPORT

• Tarvaris Jackson, QB, knee, limited

• Brian Robison, DE, hamstring, day to day

• Kahlil Bell, RB, ankle, day to day

CAMP CHATTER

"You'll be like, 'OK, I led the league in rushing last year, but every time I take the wrong step my coach is harping on me to make sure I get that step right.' Those are the little things that he keeps in my mind."

-- Adrian Peterson, on Vikings running backs coach Eric Bieniemy
