The Vikings' 2005 draft

Last update: April 22, 2009 - 11:03 PM

THE VIKINGS' 2005 DRAFT

First round: Troy Williamson, WR, No. 7 overall (current team Jacksonville)

Williamson, taken with a pick obtained from Oakland in the Randy Moss trade, turned into one of the biggest busts in Vikings history in large part because of his inability to hold onto the football. He had 79 catches for 1,067 yards and three touchdowns in three seasons (2005-07) in Minnesota.

First round: Erasmus James, DE, No. 18 (no current team)

James was expected to provide the type of pass-rushing presence the Vikings needed and had four sacks as a rookie. However, he tore the ACL and sprained the MCL early in the 2006 season and reinjured his ACL in December 2007. He had one sack in limited playing time in his final two years here and was traded to the Redskins for a conditional seventh-round pick last offseason.

Second round: Marcus Johnson, OL, No. 49 (Oakland)

Played both right guard and right tackle in starting eight of 14 games as a rookie and started 10 games at right tackle in 2006. But Johnson had no starts in 2007 and was active for only seven games last year. The Raiders signed him as a free agent this month.

Third round: Dustin Fox, S, No. 80 (Buffalo)

Fractured a bone in his left arm in training camp in 2005 and was released the following year by first-year coach Brad Childress. Fox has since spent time with Philadelphia and Buffalo and was retained by the Bills in February.

Fourth round: Ciatrick Fason, RB, No. 112 (no current team)

Fason rushed for four touchdowns as a rookie but didn't have many other highlights. He ran for 161 yards on 50 carries and five TDs in two seasons before being let go in August 2007. He spent a few days with Jacksonville last season but was released.

Sixth round: C.J. Mosley, DT, No. 191 (Cleveland)

Turned out to be the Vikings' best pick in the draft but was shipped to the Jets in the Brooks Bollinger trade in training camp in 2006. Mosley received a two-year contract reportedly worth about $5 million from Cleveland in March after spending three seasons with New York. Had three sacks in his only season with the Vikings.

Adrian Ward, CB, No. 219 (no current team)

Was let go in the final cutdown of training camp in 2005. He was taken with another pick acquired in the Moss trade. The Vikings dealt their own seventh-rounder to the Jets for linebacker Sam Cowart.
