Free-agent tight end Jared Cook, whom the Vikings had in town Tuesday and Wednesday for a visit, has joined the Raiders.

While the Vikings closed in on a deal with running back Latavius Murray on Wednesday, Cook was also at Winter Park. But a little after 8 p.m. the team announced his visit had ended without a deal. Cook boarded a plane to the Bay Area and less than 24 hours later signed with Oakland.

In eight NFL seasons, Cook has totaled 303 catches for 3,880 yards and 17 touchdowns. He spent last season with the Packers, catching 30 passes for 377 yards and a touchdown in the regular season. In the playoffs, the vertical threat made a clutch catch to help them beat the Cowboys.

Cook could have hypothetically paired with Kyle Rudolph to give the Vikings a strong tandem at tight end. Now, the Vikings, who also have second-year tight ends David Morgan and Kyle Carter under contract, will continue to look for depth at that position in free agency and the draft.
