Continued: Vikings interested in Seattle fullback

As the Vikings continue to wait and see if Cincinnati makes an offer to restricted free agent Naufahi Tahi, they also are eyeing another fullback on the open market.

The Vikings are one of several teams that have expressed interest in Leonard Weaver, who has spent his first four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. Weaver's agent, Harold Lewis, said there are "four or five" teams that have called daily about his client.

Lewis classified his discussions with the Vikings as being "more exploratory" and said the team has kept in touch about once a week.

"[The Vikings] said before you do anything please give us a call," Lewis said. "It would be a perfect fit for both sides. Weaver blocks, catches and runs really well and would fit perfectly with a West Coast system that wants more than just smashmouth kind of football."

Weaver, 26, who was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Seahawks in 2005, has rushed for 356 yards on 80 career carries with a touchdown and caught 60 passes for 547 yards with two touchdowns. Last year he gained 130 yards in 30 attempts (4.3 average) and caught 20 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns.

He would be familiar with the Vikings' scheme, having played in a similar version of the West Coast offense with the Seahawks. Seattle would like to re-sign him, and Philadelphia also is interested.

"We are trying to figure where is the best fit," Lewis said. "We're not on a time crunch, we're just waiting for the right structure of a deal."

Tahi, meanwhile, has not heard from the Bengals after visiting Cincinnati last week. The Vikings would have seven days to match any offer that Tahi receives.

An honest answer

There are few Vikings fans who have an issue with giving their opinion of Tarvaris Jackson, and often the words aren't kind. So it was interesting this week when the quarterback was asked during a radio interview for his feelings about the support he has from Minnesota fans.

"I really don't know, honestly," Jackson said on Sirius NFL Radio. "There's a lot of fans I know are behind me but there are also naysayers. Different fans have their different opinions and some guys ... like when I got drafted [in the second round in 2006], they were like, 'Maybe they shouldn't have drafted this guy.'

"No one knew who I was [coming] from a smaller black school. So there has been doubt since Day 1 about me. About me being a Viking, about me being a franchise quarterback. But that's kind of what makes the world go around. ... I'm pretty sure there are some Vikings fans that are behind me and I appreciate that."

Later, in an interview with the Star Tribune, Jackson was asked if it mattered to him whether he had the fans' support.

"I would never say it doesn't matter because I want the fans to love me," said Jackson, who is expected to battle newly acquired Sage Rosenfels for the starting job. "If you're loved by the fans, you're probably loved by the team. So I won't say it doesn't matter. But what it boils down to is what your teammates and coaches think about it and how they feel, their perception and what type of guy they think you are. That you are going to show up on Sundays week in and week out and perform to the best of your ability."

Etc.

• The Vikings are not believed to have interest in wide receiver Torry Holt, who was released by the St. Louis Rams on Friday.

• Free-agent cornerback Karl Paymah (Denver) visited the Vikings on Friday and met with the team into the late afternoon.
