NFL fantasy reality: Stars look ready to take their best shots

Last update: December 5, 2008 - 12:17 AM

Hopefully Week 13 didn't shoot your fantasy playoff hopes in the foot. Or the thigh. Pesky self-inflicted gunshot wounds aside, the past two weeks have been loaded with what us fantasy geeks have been waiting for all season: big points from the big names. Westbrook, Moss, Romo, Owens -- the stars, most of them anyway, have finally come out. But is it too late? Owners of these players and other slumping stars probably fell off the roller coaster a few weeks ago. If you're still alive, or starting your playoffs this week, here is your fantasy playoffs preview. The matchups this year hold the key:

Six teams that will decide your fantasy championship

+ Bears (JAC, NO, GB): Three home games in a row! Against deflated opponents! Ride 'em! Good news for Kyle Orton and especially Matt Forte owners, bad news for Vikings fans. Sleeper: Devin Hester.

+ Colts (CIN, DET, @JAC): Frustrated with your Colts? That will end. Joseph Addai, a stinker so far, has a shot at Fantasy Playoffs MVP, along with Forte. Anthony Gonzalez is a sleeper here.

+ Vikings (@DET, @ARI, ATL): Their next two games are against teams that can't stop anybody. Who deserves a start? Bernard Berrian is in, Visanthe Shiancoe deserves a long look and think hard on Sidney Rice if you need a third WR. Detroit is, well, Detroit, and Arizona has given up 26 passing TDs.

- Steelers (DAL, @BAL, @TEN): Can you dream up a tougher schedule? Get points out of your Steelers this weekend and then shut them down.

- Cowboys (@PIT, NYG, BAL): Bench Marion Barber, Tony Romo or Terrell Owens? We won't argue with you, if you have options. The Steelers give up the fewest points and are fighting for their playoff position. The Giants are a top 5 defense, and Baltimore might be flighting for its life in Week 16. Ugly.

- Texans (@GB, TEN, @OAK): They have been a fantasy-point factory, but it might go sour. If you've gotten fat on Steve Slaton's emergence and their spunky passing game, look out. We're not saying bench them, but have options at the ready and give them a hard look. Green Bay will be chilly, and those Packers need a win.

THE LINE whom to start Week 13: 4-1 • Season: 20-16-7

Coming off a big, fat -- and successful -- Thanksgiving Line, let's call this one the Expanded Line, Sloppy Seconds. The NHL folks will love the name:

Ryan Grant -3 over Clinton Portis Both are hurting, but both might play. Grant and the Pack dominate.

Reggie Bush -2 over Ronnie Brown Start Bush if you're in an all-or-nothing mood.

Peyton Hillis -4 over Willis McGahee They say Willis is a go. We say: No Willis, go with Hillis.

Steve Breaston -2 over Antonio Bryant + Isaac Bruce combined  Don't ask. It's a cornerback thing. Just trust us.
