Report: NFLPA will try to overturn all six suspensions

The NFL Players Association plans to file a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis today, seeking to overturn all suspensions issued Tuesday by the league for any player who took the StarCaps supplement, according ESPN. Included in that group are Vikings defensive tackles Kevin and Pat Williams, who were granted a temporary restraining order to rejoin the team by Hennepin County District Court Judge Gary Larson on Wednesday evening.
ESPN credited union sources in their report and said the action will ask the federal court for a ruling by Friday. The players who took StarCaps tested positive for a banned diuretic known as bumetanide that can serve as a masking agent for steroids. In addition to the Williamses, other suspended players include New Orleans' Deuce McAlister, Will Smith and Charles Grant and Houston's Bryant Pittman. While Pittman did not use StarCaps, he did test positive for a banned diuretic he said was prescribed by a physician. Only the Williamses have taken legal action to date.
According to ESPN, the suit by the players association might seek retroactive pay for any player who already has served a suspension in which StarCaps was the product in question. The NFLPA is expected to contend that the league did not properly administer the policy for steroids and performance-enhancing drugs by failing to notify players it had specific knowledge since late 2006 that StarCaps contained the banned diuretic.
