GAME BALLS

Adrian Peterson, Vikings: The Bears ganged up on Peterson, who had one long run (59 yards) and 27 more rugged carries for another 72.

Jared Allen, Vikings: The Vikings defensive line pressured Bears QB Kyle Orton into three second-half interceptions; Allen had three sacks and was part of a key goal-line stand.

PLAY OF THE GAME

'GO LONG ... REAL LONG'

Time: Five minutes left, first half

Ball: Vikings 1st-and-10 on their own 1

The score: Chicago led 7-3

The play: Gus Frerotte led Bernard Berrian perfectly down the left side, and Berrian scored the 12th 99-yard TD in NFL history.

The result: After holding the Bears four times at the 1, the Vikings seized on the momentum with the shocking play.

VIKINGS: NEXT GAME

About the Lions (0-12)

Detroit celebrated Thanksgiving by losing 47-10 to visiting Tennessee. The Lions could be the first NFL team to go winless in a 16-game season. With Jon Kitna and Dan Orlovsky out, Daunte Culpepper came off the scrap heap to start at QB.

Dangerous player: Calvin Johnson.

The second-year wideout from Georgia Tech has 53 catches for 971 yards and eight touchdowns.

NEW ... AND IMPROVED?

We'll stick with the theme of our 2008 preview section all season and keep grades on the new guys and the young players expected to lead:

THE SACK MAN

DE Jared Allen

Getting three sacks and three hurries made him a big-play guy under the bright lights. Has 11 sacks this season.

THE DEEP THREAT

WR Bernard Berrian

When you score on a 99-yarder, you are a deep threat indeed. Broke out of a three-game slump in a big way.

THE VETERAN

QB Gus Frerotte

Funny how that 99-yarder jacks up the stats. How about that acting job, though? Gus, we thought you wuz dead!

THE SOPHOMORE

RB Adrian Peterson

Gee, John Madden seems to really like Peterson. Can't say that we blame him. A.D. retook the NFL rushing lead.
