Tuesday morning quarterback

Dome weirdness

Teams that have a turnover margin of minus-2 or worse in a game are 10-52 this season. The Vikings have posted two of those victories in their past four games. They were minus-2 when they beat the Lions 12-10 on Oct. 12 and minus-3 when they beat the Packers 28-27 on Sunday.

What about Wes?

I officially nominate Patriots receiver Wes Welker as the most underrated player in the NFL. Coming off a franchise-record 112-catch season, Welker set an NFL record Sunday when he caught 10 passes for 107 yards against the overrated Bills. Welker became the first player to start a season with nine consecutive games with at least six catches. He had shared the record with former Jaguars receiver Jimmy Smith.

Poor Brian

So Brian Billick went all those years in Baltimore without a quality quarterback or a high-scoring offense. He gets the boot, the Ravens draft Joe Flacco and, bingo, Baltimore has set a franchise record by scoring at least 27 points in four consecutive games.

And the winner is ...

I know. You're probably sitting around taking off your purple face paint and asking yourself, "So, who's the best 5-4 team in football?" Good question. There are eight 5-4 teams in the NFL. Only one of them, the Vikings, has a victory against a team with at least seven victories (Carolina, 7-2). Only one of them, the Colts, has three victories against six-win teams (New England, Baltimore and at Pittsburgh). The Colts beat the Vikings, but the Bears drilled the Colts in Week 1. The Bears also are 3-0 against fellow 5-4 teams, so I'm going with Da Bears.

Record pace for TD passes

Since the Super Bowl era began in 1966, the NFL never has had five quarterbacks throw 30 touchdown passes in a season. Four quarterbacks have done it three times (1980, 2004, 2007). Through Monday night's game, there were five QBs on pace to throw at least 30 touchdowns: San Diego's Philip Rivers (21), Arizona's Kurt Warner (19, after three TDs against the 49ers on Monday), Denver's Jay Cutler (18), New Orleans' Drew Brees (17) and the Jets' Brett Favre (16).
