The Browns and Vikings had similar quarterback questions going into the season after both chose rookies in the first round of the draft (Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater) while both also kept veterans who were presumed to open the season as the starters (Brian Hoyer and Matt Cassel).

Hoyer and Cassel did open the season as starters. Cassel, of course, was injured early on, opening the door for Bridgewater to take over perhaps earlier than projected. We had presumed Teddy might take over after a tough six game opening stretch. Instead, he relieved Cassel in Week 3 and has started every game but one since then. In essence, that was a sped up version of one scenario we imagined would play out when Cassel was named the opening game starter.

The other scenario was the one that is now playing out in Cleveland, and it gives Vikings fans an interesting "what if" when considering Minnesota's season.

Hoyer has remained the starter for all 12 games this season, bringing some measure of stability to a QB spot that has been, somehow, even messier than the Vikings' situation in the past several years. In the most recent game, he was replaced late by Manziel. Now the Browns face a quandary: stick with the veteran or go with the rookie? It's a complicated question because Cleveland is 7-5 and still has a chance to make the playoffs (albeit just a 10 percent one, per Football Outsiders).

Hoyer has thrown one TD and six INTs in his past three games, during which time Cleveland is 1-2. On the season, he has numbers one could very easily have expected Matt Cassel to post this season had he played the full year: 3,056 yards, 11 TDs, 10 INTs and a 79.9 passer rating.

The signs in Cleveland point to Manziel getting the starting nod in the Browns' next game. The question, then, is this: If this was the Vikings, and Cassel had posted those exact numbers, and the team was 7-5 with an outside chance at making the playoffs, would you at this point turn the controls over to Bridgewater or would you stay with the veteran?
