Living up to expectations

Last update: August 27, 2008 - 12:20 AM

Nine linebackers were taken among the first 38 picks in the 2006 NFL draft. A look at their progress:

No. 5. Green Bay, A.J. Hawk, Ohio State

Two-year starter, leading tackler for the Packers over the past two seasons.

No. 9. Detroit, Ernie Sims, Florida State

Has started every game over two seasons; fourth-leading tackler in the NFL in that span.

No. 17. Vikings, Chad Greenway, Iowa

Missed rookie season after knee surgery. Was second on the team in tackles in '07.

No. 18. Dallas, Bobby Carpenter, Ohio State

Can't crack the starting lineup, but has been a standout on special teams.

No. 22. San Francisco, Manny Lawson, North Carolina State

Converted defensive end was a starter who tore his ACL in the third game last season.

No. 33. Houston, DeMeco Ryans, Alabama

NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, then made Pro Bowl last season.

No. 34. Cleveland, D'Qwell Jackson, Maryland

Two-year starter, led the team in tackles last season.

No. 35. Washington, Rocky McIntosh, Miami (Fla.)

Broke into the starting lineup last season, but torn his ACL in December.

No. 38. Oakland, Thomas Howard, Texas-El Paso

Two-year starter had six interceptions last year, returning two for TDs.
