Vikings training camp: Two out of three ain't bad

Last update: August 2, 2008 - 9:16 AM

Quarterback Tarvaris Jackson completed practice with two good throws and one he would like to have back in 11-on-11 drills. He threaded a 15-yard pass to Robert Ferguson, then rifled a 20-yard completion to Aundrae Allison. But Jackson underthrew Jaymar Johnson in the end zone and nearly had it intercepted. Brandon Sumrall had inside position, but Johnson reached over him and nearly wrested the ball away. The pass fell incomplete, but Johnson prevented an interception.

Feeling better

Defensive end Ray Edwards saw his workload increase after returning from a lower-back injury. On one play he got loose on the edge, flushed Jackson from the pocket and showed a pretty good burst chasing after Jackson in open space.

So close

Safety Madieu Williams thought he had an interception as he closed on an errant throw by Jackson in 7-on-7 drills. But the ball bounced off his hands and into the arms of tight end Braden Jones, who grabbed it and took off downfield.

PAYING OFF

Jared Allen, defensive end

Allen had a would-be sack (hitting quarterbacks isn't allowed), but the biggest development Friday was the fact he shaved his thick beard in favor of a mustache. "Oh man, just got hot, got to change it up," he said. "Just time to switch it up. I had it for about a month or so. Just constantly changing."
