Senior Bowl profile: Nebraska CB Stanley Jean-Baptiste

Posted by: Master Tesfatsion Updated: January 23, 2014 - 10:00 AM

Player: Nebraska cornerback Stanley Jean-Baptiste

Senior Bowl weigh-in: 6’2, 215 pounds; hands – 8 1/2; arm – 32 3/8; wing – 78 3/4

Senior stats (13 games): Four interceptions, 12 pass breakups, 41 tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack (All-Big Ten coaches and media second team)

He’s the second tallest cornerback at the Senior Bowl and might’ve been the most impressive. Jean-Baptiste said he’s met with the Vikings twice during the week, including on Tuesday, while they continue to piece their staff together.

"What type of player I am, what’s my best attribute on the field, how I’m looking to contribute in the NFL, what type of player I am off the field,” said Jean-Baptiste about some of the dialogue with the Vikings. “Things that I already know that they want to learn about me.”

Jean-Baptiste actually started as a wide receiver at Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, Kan. He made the switch to corner during the 2011 season with Nebraska and worked his way to a permanent starting role last season.

“My biggest strength is my physicality; ball skills I’ve got good instincts,” Jean-Baptiste said. “I cover a lot of ground.”

The Miami, Fla. native said he mainly was in press man coverage while at Nebraska, but he’d feel comfortable in zone coverage as well. He said he needs to work on off-man coverage however and a tendency to jump routes.

Jean-Baptiste said he wants to cut three pounds before the NFL Combine next month for speed purposes then plans to return to his playing weight, around 217 pounds, for Pro Day.

“I feel better at that weight,” Jean-Baptiste said. “I move better at that weight, and I just don’t feel as comfortable being light.”
